As a wife, mom, and professional in higher education — while also building my coaching and consulting business, at times I struggled. Knowing that failures are lessons, and chances to try again in a different way is what kept my confidence and resilience. You have to be willing to invest in yourself. When I first started in my business, I spent wildly and uncontrollably to get my business up and running fast because I wanted to be where everyone else in my path already was. This was the biggest mistake of my life! I had to turn that mindset around and quit cold-turkey.

Concentrating on forecasting out and reinvesting a percentage of your profits into your business is critical to setting goals that you can attain. It’s also important to invest in yourself personally as you grow. You’re bank account will only grow as fast as YOU grow. Now, in adopting and teaching an entrepreneurial success mindset, I focus on 7 AWESOME and PROVEN concepts that will push new entrepreneurs forward.

  1. Identify where you want to be in 3–5 years

Having a clear vision for your business is so important that it could make our break your success. Not knowing where you want to be spells disaster with a capital ‘D’! Creating a powerful vision for where you want to be in your business 5 years, 3 years, 1 year and next month from now will help you remain focused on what is important. Remember, a vision is a dream with clearly aligned goals.

Create S.M.A.R.T goals

Do you have a clear plan for your business? Have you decided what you will be doing this month, this quarter or this year to grow your business? Having a calendar for strategies, marketing, and tasks to grow your business is vital to achieving your goals. We all know that our goals should be specific, measurable, action-oriented, realistic and timely, don’t we?

2. Activate your special sauce and tell your story

Future clients/customers have to trust you-plain and simple-before they will do business with you or purchase your services and your products. The quickest and easiest way to do this is to connect with them by telling your story. Talk directly to your ideal customer like you understant their problems and let them know how you can help. Let customers know if you’ve been in their same situation before and how you dealt with it. Share with them your similar challenges and how you overcame them.

Your mission is to become the best version of yourself, not to be exactly like someone else — add you own sauce to a recipe!

3. Birth yourself: Determine what differentiates you

There are thousands and thousands of solopreneurs around the world and each possibly giving the same information. Why should someone give you their business? What is different about you and your business? A significant factor to attracting your ideal audience is telling them why you are dissimilar from the others and unique in what you teach or offer.

As a solopreneur, you are your brand. What can you offer your clients that makes you different, diverse and special? Birth your purpose!

4. Understand basic net and web strategies

To an aspiring solopreneur, I teach that it is imperative that you know basic website language and strategies. Who wants to call up and rely on a web designer every time you want to make a slight edit to a web page? For those just starting out in their businesses, you’ve got to know how to reach your prospects through email or social media posts, and you’ve got to know how to record a quick video or access to a web-conferencing system. These skills could be doubly vital if you’re on a budget.

5. Build a Championship Support Team

Whether you’re a solopreneur like a coach, consultant or otherwise, you need to recognize the importance of having team beside you. A team could launch your business to profitability faster. Adding even a part-time virtual assistant (VA) or non-paid intern to your team can do wonders.

I can hear you saying now “I can’t afford to put someone on payroll!” Well you think you can’t, but how about bartering with a VA. You offer your services to them and vice versa. Easy, right?

6. WOW your clients and customers

I’m passionate about this concept. Once you’ve gotten a client, keep ‘em! Seduce them over and over to become a walking and talking referral for you. Offering your clients fabulous service and unexpected freebies, and small personal touch responses will leave them saying only one thing about you and your business — “Wowzers!”

7. Effortlessly attract your ideal clients and customers

What do you focus on each day in your business or journey to entrepreneurship?

- Not having clients?
- Too much to do?
- Not enough time or money?

Well, believe it or not, you create your own reality! You are where you are in your journey by what you have been thinking and focusing on yesterday, last week and last year. I use the Law of Attraction along with affirmations in my coaching business and it’s a powerful ‘tool’ for solopreneurs to use in their businesses as well. By setting your intentions each step of the way, building your business can become effortless.

These 7 concepts are the building blocks of setting out to do what it is you love to do as an entrepreneur. Try them for a month and you’ll be amazed.
